About Our Program

The 21st Century Community Learning Center After-School Program at Greenville Middle School is completely free and open to all GMS students in grades 6 through 8. This program is an opportunity for all students to receive extra help and assistance with their work in all classes. Our after-school teachers provide help with homework, projects, tests, and quizzes, as well as small-group tutoring, every day. In addition, our teachers plan and facilitate engaging and interactive enrichment activities for our students in order to develop their skills in different areas and provide them with opportunities that they may not otherwise get. Check out the Word Cloud images below for snapshots of the academic and enrichment opportunities provided with our program!

In addition to operating our traditional in-person after-school program, we will also be offering virtual homework assistance, help with academics, and interactive enrichment activities virtually for our remote students who would still like to participate in our program! Please contact one of our site coordinators (Mrs. Heaton or Mr. Owens) if you are a remote student who would like more information about getting involved in our virtual after-school program.

Program Calendar

The GMS After-School Program is year-long and operates on Mondays through Thursdays from 3:25 pm to 6:25 pm. The program is not open on Fridays. Students can stay for all or part of the time each afternoon, so there is flexibility for students who would like to attend, but also participate in other sports, clubs, or activities.

The program will run from the end of September through the end of March during the 2020-2021 school year, with the months of April and May reserved for make-up days that may be needed due to closures for COVID-19, inclement weather, or other unexpected reasons throughout the school year. We will also offer a summer component to the program that will run from June 1st to June 24th. The summer program will operate on Tuesdays through Thursdays from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm. A full year-long calendar of when the program will be open is provided to the right.

Transportation

Bus transportation home from the program is provided for any students who need it. The buses arrive at 6:30 pm to take students home. Although our after-school buses cannot drop students off directly at their homes, there are several drop-off points throughout the county that they will take students to. Parents/guardians are asked to be at these drop-off locations on time to pick up their children and take them home. A full list of bus drop-off locations is provided to the left. We ask that all parents/guardians who choose to pick up students at the school to please be there on time at 6:30 pm.

Snacks

All students who stay after school to participate in the program receive a free snack and drink from the GMHS cafeteria each day. A snack cart is also available for students who would like to purchase additional snacks and/or drinks.
